Mexican dancer.

Provenance : Sotheby's sale 12/12/1981
Miguel Covarrubias is an eclectic and self-taught artist whose career began as a cartoonist in New York. Fascinated by Mexican culture, he returned to settle there and started a collection of antiques with his friend Diego Rivera.
Parallel to his activity as a painter, he embarked on a career as an archaeologist, then as a museographer and finally as a ballet director, always in touch with this beloved South American culture. He also published various works aiming at the recognition of the Olmec culture.
It is in this passion for Mexico that our little watercolor is part of.
