Van der Myn lower left 76.8 x 63 cm Frans van der Mijn came from a family of artists who arrived in London in 1721. He studied portraiture with his father, who taught him the art of portraiture. Influenced by his few trips between Amsterdam and The Hague and his English upbringing, his portraits illustrate his taste for the rendering of materials and the psychological truth of his characters. Our portrait shows an elegant young woman who can be identified as Agnus Tolson of Giggleswick, thanks to a very close portrait signed and dated 1759, sold at Billingshurt, UK in 2000.
